Some ingredients earn their reputation through marketing. Rosehip oil earned its reputation in clinics, in aromatherapy practice, and in generations of home remedies - long before it ever appeared on an ingredient list. It remains one of the most trusted skin-repair oils in the natural world, and one of the hardest-working ingredients in The Victorian Garden's formulations.
Rosehip oil is cold-pressed from the seeds of the wild rose - the small, deep-orange fruit left behind after the petals fall. Unlike rose essential oil, which is distilled from the petals and prized for its aroma, rosehip oil is a carrier oil: rich, silky and almost scentless, valued entirely for what it does inside the skin.
And what it contains is remarkable. Rosehip oil is exceptionally rich in essential fatty acids - the omega-3 and omega-6 lipids that form the very building blocks of the skin barrier - along with naturally occurring compounds related to vitamin A, which support the skin's own renewal process, and antioxidant carotenoids that give the oil its warm golden colour.
In aromatherapy practice, rosehip oil has long held a special role: healing. It has been used for decades to support the recovery of scars, including post-surgical scars, and to help repair skin damaged by sun, weather or irritation. Its gift is encouraging regeneration - helping the skin replace damaged cells with healthy ones, restoring smoothness, elasticity and even tone.
This makes it uniquely valuable for skin in distress: after too much sun, during a harsh season, when scars or marks are healing, or whenever skin looks fragile, uneven or older than it should. It is also gentle enough for sensitive skin, absorbing without heaviness and without clogging.
The Rosehip Healing Facial Serum places rosehip oil at the centre of a pure aromatherapy formula of cold-pressed plant oils and essential oils, made for skin that needs genuine repair - from scarring and sun damage to the general wear of stress and seasonal change.
The Tangerine & Rose Anti-Stretch Mark Body Massage Oil uses rosehip's regenerating character on the body, where it helps soften stretch marks, scars and uneven tone while supporting the skin's elasticity through pregnancy and beyond.
Rosehip oil gives its best on slightly damp skin, applied at night when the skin's own repair work is at its peak. For scars and marks, patience and consistency matter more than quantity - a few drops massaged in daily over several months is the traditional approach, and the one that works.
There are louder ingredients in the beauty world, with bigger claims and shorter lifespans. Rosehip oil simply keeps doing what it has always done: quietly helping skin heal, renew and remember what healthy feels like.
