Around the World Aromatherapy: Africa

Following on from England, France and India in our Around the World Aromatherapy series, we bring fragrances home to Africa in this post. Africa is renowned for some of the most sensual and fascinating aromas and these essential oil blends will evoke the warmth of Africa no matter where you are in the world!

Madagascan Ylang Ylang is distilled in the early morning, known for it’s aphrodisiac effect, it blends beautifully with other luxurious oils to sooth the soul:

  • 2 drops Ylang Ylang
  • 2 drops Sandalwood (or Frankincense)
  • 2 drops Neroli (or Geranium)

Morocco is famous for it’s burst of colour and evocative essences. Create aomas of this fascinating place with these inspiring recipes:

  • 2 drops Myrtle
  • 2 drops Geranium
  • 2 drops Neroli

OR

  • 2 drops Cedarwood
  • 2 drops Aniseed
  • 2 drops Petitgrain

Zanzibar once produced most of the world’s clove supplies, create this blends on a winter’s night for a warm and sensual feeling:

  • 2 drops Clove
  • 2 drops Cinnamon
  • 2 drops Orange

A post on African fragrances would not be complete without the blends of the Egyptian fragrance queen herself, Cleopatra. These two blends have been recreated from her book on cosmetics and perfumery and were among her favourite scents! (note: not to be used topically):

  • 2 drops Cinnamon
  • 2 drops Myrrh
  • 2 drops Geranium

in vanilla water

OR

  • 2 drops Myrrh
  • 2 drops Cedarwood
  • 2 drops Ylang Ylang

in Rosewater
